Malaysia and Bangladesh to cooperate on investigation of suspected

Bangladeshi nationals over militancy

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), 11 July:

Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has stated, Bangladesh will work with Malaysia to investigate allegations of militancy against Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested recently by the Malaysian Police. The Adviser remarks on this at a bilateral meeting with the Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan held today in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of 32^nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting. 

The Foreign Adviser expressed his concerns with the arrests of Bangladeshi nationals over allegations of terrorism. He reiterated the firm stand of the government against terrorism and sought Malaysia's cooperation in its own investigation into the allegations through exchange of information and findings. The Malaysian Foreign Minister assured to facilitate access and cooperation with the Bangladesh authorities.

Earlier, the Foreign Advisor met the UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, where the two leaders held discussions on diverse bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues. Both sides discussed, among others, the ongoing reforms in Bangladesh, Rohingya crisis, post-LDC graduation support, etc. 

The Foreign Adviser also called on the Foreign Ministers of New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the Vice Minister and Head of Delegation of the Republic of Korea, where a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues were discussed. 

Bangladesh became a member of ARF in 2006, a forum established in early nineties to promote confidence and trust among its 27 members that include countries in the broader Asia-Pacific. At present, Bangladesh is co-chairing two of the ARF priority areas, ‘Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime’ and ‘Disaster Relief.’ The next session of the ARF Ministerial Meeting is scheduled to take place in Manila in 2026.

In the afternoon, the Foreign Adviser delivered the national statement at the Ministerial Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum, where he called for greater attention to the Rohingya crisis, inc consideration of its national and regional security implications. The Foreign Adviser also urged the ASEAN members to positively consider Bangladesh’s bid to become Sectoral Dialogue Partner. 

The Foreign Adviser was accompanied by Md. Shameem Ahsan, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia; Md Forhadul Islam, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and other senior officials of the Bangladesh Government.

কোভিড-১৯ সংক্রান্ত সর্বশেষ প্রতিবেদন

          স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তরের তথ্যানুযায়ী গতকাল বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল ৮টা থেকে আজ শুক্রবার সকাল ৮টা পর্যন্ত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় দেশে ৩ জনের শরীরে করোনা সংক্রমণ পাওয়া গেছে। এ সময় ১৯০ জনের নমুনা পরীক্ষা করা হয়েছে। নমুনা পরীক্ষার বিপরীতে রোগী শনাক্তের হার ১ দশমিক ৫৮ শতাংশ।  

          গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় কোভিড-১৯ আক্রান্ত হয়ে কেউ মৃত্যুবরণ করেনি। জানুয়ারি ২০২৫ হতে এ পর্যন্ত ২৫ জন এবং ২০২০ সালে করোনা মহামারি শুরুর পর থেকে এ পর্যন্ত ২৯ হাজার ৫২৪ জন করোনায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন।

50 Native Wild Animals Rescued from

Bird Shops in Mirpur during Forest Department Operation

Dhaka, 11 July:

    Today an operation was conducted by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Forest Department in the bird shops and raw market area of Mirpur-01 in the capital. During the drive, a total of 50 native wild animals, which were being illegally confined and displayed for sale, were seized.

    The rescued wildlife includes three hill mynas, two crested mynas, two jungle mynas, two spotted doves, fourteen common mynas, two Alexandrine parakeets, twenty-three parrots, one buzzard, and one Asian koel.

     Most of the rescued wild animals were later released into safe and suitable natural habitats as per the directions of the concerned authorities. The sick or injured animals have been kept safely for temporary care and will also be released into the wild once they recover.

    The operation was led by Wildlife Inspector Nargis Sultana and carried out by a six-member experienced team. The drive covered several shops and locations within the market area and was supported by ‘SWAN’, an organization dedicated to environmental and wildlife conservation.

    According to the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012, the collection, rearing, sale, and transportation of any native wild animal is legally prohibited and considered a punishable offense. The Wildlife Crime Control Unit has reaffirmed its commitment to continue regular drives in bird markets to ensure the protection and conservation of wildlife.

বন বিভাগের অভিযানে মিরপুরে পাখির দোকান থেকে ৫০টি দেশীয় বন্যপ্রাণী উদ্ধার

রাজধানীর মিরপুর-১ এলাকার কাঁচাবাজার ও পাখির দোকানগুলোতে বন বিভাগের বন্যপ্রাণী অপরাধ দমন ইউনিট আজ একটি অভিযান করেছে। অভিযানে অবৈধভাবে আটক রাখা ও বিক্রয়ের উদ্দেশ্যে প্রদর্শিত মোট ৫০টি দেশীয় বন্যপ্রাণী জব্দ করা হয়েছে।

উদ্ধারকৃত প্রাণীগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে: ৩টি পাহাড়ি ময়না, ২টি ঝুঁটি শালিক, ২টি গাং শালিক, ২টি তিলা ঘুঘু, ১৪টি শালিক, ২টি হিরামন তোতা, ২৩টি টিয়া, ১টি বাজপাখি ও ১টি কড়ি কাইট্টা।

অভিযানে উদ্ধারকৃত অধিকাংশ বন্যপ্রাণীকে সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী নিরাপদ ও উপযুক্ত প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশে অবমুক্ত করা হয়েছে। তবে অসুস্থ বন্যপ্রাণীদের নিরাপদভাবে সংরক্ষণে রাখা হয়েছে এবং পরে তাদেরকেও মুক্ত প্রকৃতিতে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হবে।

বন্যপ্রাণী পরিদর্শক নার্গিস সুলতানার নেতৃত্বে ৬ সদস্যের একটি অভিজ্ঞ দল মিরপুর-১ এর একাধিক দোকান ও স্থানে অভিযান পরিচালনা করে। অভিযানে সহযোগিতা করে পরিবেশ ও বন্যপ্রাণী সংরক্ষণে নিবেদিত সংগঠন ‘সোয়ান’।

বন্যপ্রাণী (সংরক্ষণ ও নিরাপত্তা) আইন, ২০১২ অনুযায়ী, দেশীয় যেকোনো বন্যপ্রাণী সংগ্রহ, লালন-পালন, ক্রয়-বিক্রয় ও পরিবহণ আইনত নিষিদ্ধ এবং শাস্তিযোগ্য অপরাধ। বন্যপ্রাণী সংরক্ষণে পাখি বাজারে এ ধরনের নিয়মিত অভিযান অব্যাহত রাখার জন্য অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করেছে বন্যপ্রাণী অপরাধ দমন ইউনিট।

দূষণবিরোধী অভিযানে ছয় মাসে

প্রায় সাড়ে ২৫ কোটি টাকা জরিমানা এবং আড়াই লাখ কেজি পলিথিন জব্দ

পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মন্ত্রণালয়ের পরিবেশ অধিদপ্তর ২ জানুয়ারি থেকে ১০ জুলাই, ২০২৫ পর্যন্ত দেশব্যাপী বায়ুদূষণ, শব্দদূষণ ও নিষিদ্ধ পলিথিনের বিরুদ্ধে মোবাইল কোর্ট অভিযানে মোট ২ হাজার ৮৪৬টি মামলা দায়ের করে প্রায় সাড়ে ২৫ কোটি টাকা জরিমানা আদায় এবং আড়াই লাখ কেজি পলিথিন জব্দ করেছে।

বায়ুদূষণ নিয়ন্ত্রণে যানবাহনের অতিমাত্রায় কালো ধোঁয়া, অবৈধ ইটভাটা, স্টিল মিল, ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ বর্জ্য নির্গমনকারী শিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠান, সীসা-ব্যাটারী রি-সাইক্লিং কারখানা, জলাশয় ভরাট, খোলা জায়গায় নির্মাণসামগ্রী সংরক্ষণ, টায়ার পাইরোলাইসিস ও চারকোল কারখানার বিরুদ্ধে এ অভিযান পরিচালিত হয়।

এসময় ৪৮৩টি ইটভাটার চিমনি ভেঙে কার্যক্রম বন্ধ, ২১৬টি ইটভাটার কার্যক্রম বন্ধে নির্দেশনা প্রদান, ১৩২টি ইটভাটার কাঁচা ইট ধ্বংস করা এবং ৯১টি শিল্পপ্রতিষ্ঠানের সেবা বা বিদ্যুৎ সংযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন করা হয়। একইসঙ্গে দুই জনকে এক মাসের বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ড প্রদান করা হয়েছে। এছাড়াও ৬টি কারখানা থেকে সীসা গলানোর ৮টি ট্রাক সরঞ্জাম জব্দ করে কারখানাগুলো বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে।

অপরদিকে, নিষিদ্ধ পলিথিন উৎপাদন, বিক্রয়, সরবরাহ ও বাজারজাতকরণের বিরুদ্ধে ৩ নভেম্বর ২০২৪ হতে ১০ জুলাই, ২০২৫ পর্যন্ত পরিচালিত ৪৭৭টি মোবাইল কোর্ট অভিযানে ৯০৪টি প্রতিষ্ঠানকে ৬৭ লাখ ৪০ হাজার ৪০০ টাকা জরিমানা করা হয়েছে এবং প্রায় ২ লাখ ৪৫ হাজার ৭০৭ কেজি পলিথিন জব্দ করা হয়েছে।

শব্দদূষণ নিয়ন্ত্রণে ১০ জুলাই, ২০২৫ ঢাকা মহানগরের মিরপুর ও কিশোরগঞ্জ জেলায় দু’টি মোবাইল কোর্ট পরিচালনা করে ছয়টি মামলায় ৬ হাজার ৫০০ টাকা জরিমানা আদায় করা হয়। একইদিনে বাংলাদেশ পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ আইন ১৯৯৫ (সংশোধিত-২০১০) অনুযায়ী কিশোরগঞ্জে একটি মামলায় ১৩ হাজার টাকা জরিমানা আদায় এবং ২৭ দশমিক ৪ কেজি পলিথিন জব্দ করা হয়। নারায়ণগঞ্জ ও পাবনা জেলায় দু’টি এনফোর্সমেন্ট অভিযানে ২টি প্রতিষ্ঠানের সেবা সংযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন করা হয়েছে।

পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণে এ ধরনের অভিযান ভবিষ্যতেও জোরালোভাবে অব্যাহত থাকবে।

লঘুচাপ ও ভারী বৃষ্টির প্রভাবে প্রায় বাহাত্তর হাজার হেক্টর জমির ফসল ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ

দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম মৌসুমি বায়ু সক্রিয় থাকায় বঙ্গোপসাগরে সৃষ্ট লঘুচাপ এবং উপকুলীয় অঞ্চলে ভারী বৃষ্টির প্রভাবে বিভিন্ন জেলায় প্রায় বাহাত্তর হাজার হেক্টর জমির ফসল ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হয়েছে। ঢাকা, চট্টগ্রাম, খুলনা ও বরিশাল অঞ্চলের কোথাও কোথাও অস্থায়ী জলাবদ্ধতার কারণে আউশ, আমন বীজতলা, বোনা আমন, পাট, শাকসবজি, ফলবাগান, পান ও তরমুজ ইত্যাদি ফসল পানিতে নিমজ্জিত হয়েছে।

কুমিল্লা, চাঁদপুর, ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া, চট্টগ্রাম, কক্সবাজার, নোয়াখালী, ফেনী, লক্ষ্মীপুর, খাগড়াছড়ি, পাবনা, খুলনা, বাগেরহাট, সাতক্ষীরা, নড়াইল, বরিশাল, পিরোজপুর, ঝালকাঠি, পটুয়াখালি, বরগুনা, ভোলা ও শরীয়তপুরসহ ২১টি জেলায় ৭২ হাজার ৭৬ হেক্টর জমির বিভিন্ন ফসল প্রাথমিকভাবে পানিতে নিমজ্জিত হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে কুমিল্লায় ১১ হাজার ৫৯০ হেক্টর, নোয়াখালীতে ৭ হাজার ৮০৬ হেক্টর এবং ফেনীতে ১ হাজার ৬৫৫ হেক্টর জমির বিভিন্ন ফসল পানিতে নিমজ্জিত হয়েছে। তবে বৃষ্টিপাত হ্রাস পাওয়ায় ফসলসমূহের নিমজ্জিত থাকার হার ক্রমান্বয়ে হ্রাস পাচ্ছে।

কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদপ্তরেরে এক প্রতিবেদনে গতকাল এসব তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে।
