President Md. Abdul Hamid would hand over the 'Public Administration Padak-2019' at a function marking the National Public Service Day-2019 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city today.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury while releasing fish fries at the lake of Parliament Secretariat marking the 'National Fisheries Week- 2019' yesterday said,  the government has been working with a target to build a country free of hunger. Fishing sector sees a success under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh has been placed fourth position in fish production in the world, the Speaker said.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at a press conference at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday said, the flood-ravaged roads in the country are expected to be repaired before Eid-ul-Adha. CNG filling stations will remain open round the clock for 10 days from a week before the Eid. Heavy vehicles will be off the road for three days before and three days after Eid. Vehicles carrying perishable commodities, garments and drugs will be allowed to ply, the Minister added.

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal briefing reporters at his ministry after holding a meeting with the Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of the state-owned banks yesterday reiterated that those who are involved in the banking sector irregularities would not be spared. The Finance Minister also said, the bank interest rates would be reduced to single digit as per the decision of the Prime Minister.

Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Masud Bin Momen while delivering the national statement at the Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau in Caracas, Venezuela on Sunday urged the NAM member states including the ASEAN neighbors of Myanmar to put in more efforts so that Myanmar authorities take back the Rohingyas from Bangladesh.

Flood situation is improving in most parts of the country as water levels in major rivers are in falling trend, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC). Flood situation in Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogra, Tangail, Sirajganj, Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur and Munshiganj districts may improve in next 24 hours, according to a bulletin of FFWC. The government has allocated 5,250 tonnes of rice, Taka 83.50 lac, 26,000 packets of dry food and 3,000 tents for distribution among flood-hit people in seven flood-affected northern districts. The government during the last 22 days allocated Taka 3.87 crore, 24,150 metric tonnes of rice and other relief materials for the flood victims.

Japan-based Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) has formulated a master plan 'Bangladesh National Productivity Master Plan 2021-2030', to increase productivity in the country’s different sectors including industry, service and agriculture. APO Secretary General Dr. Santhi Kanoktanaporn handed over the master plan to Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at a function at his ministry yesterday.

The government has issued a strong note of warning against killing of innocent people led by suspicion or rumour, saying perpetrators of such barbaric acts would be exposed to stern punitive actions, amid several recent incidents of lynching calling the victims 'child lifters', said a PID handout released yesterday.  

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud while addressing a two-day  Film Festival at the Public Library in Dhaka yesterday said, a good film could play a vital role in exploring the intellect and conscience side by side with building the state, the nation and the society.

DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon while talking to the journalists after visiting Dengue patients at Dhaka Shishu Hospital in Dhaka yesterday said, workers of health department and cleaners of DSCC every day go to door to door in 57 wards under the city corporation to destroy the larvae and breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das yesterday addressed the trainees of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah of Rajshahi, calling them future custodians of law and order in Bangladesh and inspired them to serve the community in a professional manner without losing human touch. She also visited the Bangladesh-India Friendship Building funded by the government of India, which houses the cyber-crime and IT-training facilities of BPA.

Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council yesterday temporarily expelled one of its organising secretaries, Priya Saha, for her recent controversial remarks on religious persecution of minority communities in Bangladesh during a meeting with the US president Donald Trump.

Investors will get approval within one click from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) for remittance, royalty and technical know-how fees of the outbound reimbursement. The information was revealed at a meeting of the BIDA yesterday. Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) sources said, the government has set a target of export earnings for the current fiscal year at US$51 billion, including US$44 billion from goods and US$7 billion from services. The just concluded month-long National Tree Plantation Campaign and Fair-2019 has fetched Tk. 11 crore selling 16 lac saplings.
