              Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, Bangladesh had lost all potentials and the ideology of the liberation war after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Premier said this while inaugurating the blood donation programme and tree plantation drive of Bangladesh Krishak League at Dhanmondi in the capital through a teleconference from London yesterday. The PM has also directed them to take proper steps to check mosquito breeding and urged the people to protect themselves, thier families and houses from the mosquitoes.

            Road Transport and Bridges Minister has said, the communal forces get active here in every August, the month of  mourning when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members was killed in 1975. The Minister yesterday said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a month-long art exhibition at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation. Regarding dengue, the Minister said, the prevailing dengue situation is alarming but not out of control yet. We’ll confront the situation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

            Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has expressed his optimism, the dengue situation will come under control soon with the concerted efforts of all and effective awareness campaign. The Minister said this while replying to the questions of journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting with two City Corporation Mayors at his ministry yesterday. The Minister said, some 17,163 dengue patients across the country received treatment till July 31. The Minister said, new wards have been opened at hospitals to tackle the dengue situation. Civil surgeon in every district has been given directives to tackle the dengue outbreak. Some 65,000 kits have been distributed for dengue test and an approval has been given to import 5 lakh more kits. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon said, we are working in a coordinated way to tackle the dengue situation and informed, 11 wards in the city are now dengue free. Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said, an expert will be brought from India to tackle dengue.

            Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud yesterday demanded constituting a commission to unmask the masterminds behind the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Minister said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a photo exhibition on Bangabandhu  infront of  the Secretariat clinic building in Dhaka yesterday. The Minister also said, to ensure justice, masterminds of the assassination should be brought to justice. State Minister for Information Dr. Murad Hasan, Information Secretary Abdul Malek and Principal Information Officer Surath Kumar Sarker were also present in the function arranged by Press Information Department marking the mourning month of August.

            Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal has sought more British investments to Bangladesh taking advantage of its investment-friendly environment, young and growing population. The Finance Minister made the remarks at a meeting hosted by Chair of British Business Group Francois de Maricourt and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson on Wednesday held at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Dhaka. Later, at a meeting with the UAE business delegation at the secretariat on the same day, the Minister welcomed their proposal of setting up an export processing zone in the country.

            Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen has sought Thailand support as current chair of the ASEAN in early, safe and secure Rohingya repatriation. The Minister said this while holding a meeting with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai in Bangkok on sidelines of the 26th ASEAN Regional Forum last evening. The Minister also highlighted the negative impact of the presence of such large number of Rohingyas on the country. The Thai Foreign Minister assured that Thailand will continue working to resolve this issue. The Minister has also accentuated on increase of bilateral trade and investment and collaboration in different areas between the countries. The Minister thanked the Thai government for introducing Bangabandhu Chair PhD fellowship at Asian Institute of Thailand.

            Planning Minister M A Mannan has said, the living standards of the country’s people have improved a lot over the past 10 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Minister said this while addressing a function after distributing the old-age allowances book among the recipients held at Jagannathpur upazila under Sunamganj district yesterday. Mentioning that almost most of the poor and aged people have already been brought under the allowance schemes, the Minister also said, the rest of the elderly people across the country would be brought under the allowance schemes in phases.

            National Moon Sighting Committee meeting will be held today to fix the date of holy Eid-ul-Azha. The meeting will be held at the Islamic Foundation’s Baitul Mukarram office with State Minister of Religious affairs and Moon Sighting Committee Chairman Sheikh Md. Abdullah in the chair.
