Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo in Dhaka called on President Md. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday. During the visit, the Chinese Envoy said, his country would provide all possible cooperation for safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina now visiting the UK has asked the government agencies concerned to launch a social awareness campaign to negate rumours leading to fatal incidents and check spread of dengue fever.   This was informed at an inter-ministerial meeting at PMO yesterday. The Premier simultaneously instructed the officials concerned to take necessary steps minimising sufferings of the flood victims.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury while inaugurating ‘Mother and Child Support Programme’ arranged by Women and Children Affairs Ministry at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital yesterday said,  under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian, women empowerment at grassroots levels plays important role leading the country’s economic progress.

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader while briefing to the journalists at his ministry in Dhaka yesterday said, the government has taken strong stance against spreading child lifting rumours.  Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud while talking to media at his ministry yesterday said, the government has pledged to bring the rumour mongers to book.  Rumours over child-abduction leading to lynching of several innocent people were spread to obstruct construction of the Padma Bridge, the Minister expressed the suspicion. Inspector General of Police Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary while addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters in the city yesterday said, for spreading rumours, a total of 60 Facebook  accounts, 25 YouTube channels and 10 online news portals have been made offline. A total of 31 cases have been filed and 103 people have been arrested so far for spreading rumours and mob-beating incidents, he said.      

Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen while briefing media at his ministry yesterday about his recent meeting with UN Chief Antonio Guterres in New York said, the United Nations is putting all efforts for resolving the Rohingya crisis in the shortest possible time.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar while holding a meeting with BIMSTEC Secretary General Shahidul Islam in New Delhi on Tuesday reiterated his country’s strong commitment to the BIMSTEC process.

Railways Minister Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujan while visiting the Pahartali Locomotive workshop of East Zone Railway in Chattogram yesterday said, Bangladesh Railway will introduce 15 more new train services across the country by 2020. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid while addressing a deal signing ceremony with a 584MW LNG-fired power plant at Bidyut Bhaban yesterday said, country's people would get 100 per cent electricity by the end this year, as 94 pc people now are under power coverage. The government will construct 40 kilometers 'key wall' and 52 kilometers walkway on the retrieved banks of the four rivers- the Buriganga, the Turag, the Balu and the Shitalakhya around Dhaka by 2022. The information was revealed at a meeting of the government’s taskforce on river protection at the Shipping Ministry with State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud in the chair. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak while addressing a prize-giving ceremony at a city hotel yesterday under the auspices of BRAC said, 25,000 more Sheikh Russel digital labs will be set up at different universities across the country in next 3 years.

Major rivers crossed danger marks at 18 more points across the country, according to a bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) issued yesterday. The Brahmaputro, Dharla, Teesta, Ghaghot and Surma-Kushiyara rivers are in rising trend, while the Ganges-Padma rivers are in falling trend. The government during the last 24 days allocated Taka 4.28 crore, 25,950 metric tonnes of rice and other relief materials for the flood victims. Agriculture Minister Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque distributed relief to 350 flood affected people at Doulatpur Upazila in Manikganj on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) yesterday signed an MoU   at the SPA headquarters in the Saudi capital agreeing to exchange news, generated by the two state-run news agencies with an aim to strengthen further the brotherly ties between Dhaka and Riyadh. Information Secretary Abdul Malek who led a three- member Bangladesh delegation on the occasion witnessed the signing ceremony.

The EU will provide 142 million Euros to support key national reform agenda in public financial management and social security in Bangladesh. Two separate grant agreements were signed between the EU and the government at a function at Economic Relations Division in Dhaka yesterday. ERD Secretary Monowar Ahmed and EU Ambassador to Dhaka Rensje Teerink signed the grant documents on behalf of their respective sides. The country’s remittance inflow hit an all-time high at $16.40 billion in the just-concluded fiscal year. Remittance inflow in FY 2018-19 was almost 9.47 per cent higher than FY 2017-18, according to Bangladesh Bank. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to add the third Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to its fleet today. The aircraft is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital in the afternoon. 

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) got the nod from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to organize a T20I match on March 18-21 next year in Dhaka between Asia All Star and Rest of the World to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
